The Proms opens its doors with key projects and partnerships designed especially to introduce classical music to those who may not have experienced it before.

Following its launch last year, the Proms At... series returns. Alongside eight Proms Chamber Music concerts at Cadogan Hall, it matches music to five different venues, with four spaces never previously visited by the Proms, including heading out of London to Hull, celebrating the UK City of Culture 2017.

Proms At… Stage@TheDock, Hull

The BBC Proms travels out of London for the first time in recent history to a unique waterside setting in Hull (pictured) where Nicholas McGegan conducts the Royal Northern Sinfonia in a concert inspired by the 300th anniversary of the first performance of Handel’s Water Music (22 July).

Proms At… Southwark Cathedral, London Bridge

Palestrina’s Offertorium and Missa Confitebor Tibi, Domine sit alongside the world premiere of Judith Weir’s In The Land Of Uz, performed by the BBC Singers, Nash Ensemble, tenor Adrian Thompson and conductor David Hill (12 August).

Proms At… Bold Tendencies Multi-Storey Car Park, Peckham

The BBC Proms returns to Peckham for an eclectic programme featuring the works of J.S. Bach, Kate Whitley and John Adams, performed by soprano Ruby Hughes, bass-baritone Michael Sumuel, The Multi-Story Youth Choir, The Multi-Story Orchestra and conductor Christopher Stark (26 August).

Proms At… Wilton’s Music Hall, Whitechapel

Conductor Sian Edwards and the Birmingham Contemporary Music Group present a celebration of birdsong, with performances of John Luther Adams’s Songbirdsongs and Peter Davies’s Eight Songs For A Mad King (2 September).

Proms At… The Tanks At Tate Modern, Bankside

BBC Radio 3 presenter Sara Mohr-Pietsch and the London Contemporary Orchestra spotlight new and experimental music against the industrial backdrop of The Tanks in a Late Night concert linked to Radio 3’s Open Ear series (6 September).
