This summer, BBC Sport’s Get Inspired is urging people across the UK to get moving. New campaign Make Your Move is packed with a range of challenges aimed at encouraging those who want to be more active to get involved and make a change.
At bbc.co.uk/makeyourmove is a complete guide on getting stronger and fitter by setting realistic goals and enjoying the process of reaching that personal target, without breaking the bank.
A team of experts have created 16 simple physical challenges to suit all levels of fitness, split into four categories: Strength, Movement, Balance and Flexibility. Each one comes with its own online ‘how to’ video guide.
There’s also a free to download app for novice runners to go from the ‘Couch to 5k’ spurred on by celebrity voices acting as their personal trainer, including Radio DJ Jo Whiley; comedian and actor Sanjeev Kohli; 13-time Olympic and World Championship gold medallist Michael Johnson; and comedian Sarah Millican who will talk them through each run.
For those who are unsure which challenge might suit them best, there’s an interactive quiz - ‘What Move Should I Make?’ - to get started.
Backing Make Your Move are some familiar BBC faces: Masterchef’s John Torode, Radio 1 DJ Gemma Cairney, BBC Breakfast’s Carol Kirkwood, and Former JLS singer and presenter of CBBC’s Down On The Farm, JB Gill. All four will be putting themselves to the test, taking on a challenge each and giving regular updates on how they are doing at #MakeYourMove.
From yoga you can do anywhere, or an upper body routine, to the YMCA song or limbering up to do the splits, there’s something for everyone to get motivated.
Encouraging participation is an important part of what BBC Sport does. The Get Inspired initiative encourages people to try new sports and activities, through films, features, guides, and links to events and clubs near you.
Sharon Fuller, Project Lead of Get Inspired, says: “Make Your Move is all about proving to people that getting active doesn’t have to feel like exercise. We want to inspire those who wouldn’t usually do any physical activity to try something new.
“It’s about taking small steps to becoming fitter, and Make Your Move offers some simple and fun challenges for all.”
Taking part is easy. Choose your challenge and use #MakeYourMove on social media to join the community, get tips from experts on getting fitter, and show everyone how you are improving. A highlights film shown exclusively on BBC iPlayer will be created with videos and photos sent in from people making their move.
