Vicky (Christine Bottomley) has been a midwife at St Catherine’s hospital for five years and runs the antenatal clinic’s Parentcraft classes for expectant mums. She’s coached countless women through their labours over the years and always dreamed of getting married and starting a family herself. Her parents have been together for 35 years and she always saw herself having a similar relationship one day.
When she met Dr Chris Bellingham (Brendan Patricks) at work and they discreetly started dating, she thought he could finally be the one. But when an unplanned pregnancy raised the question of marriage she was devastated to hear him say he couldn’t marry her.
But when Chris came face to face with the risk of losing Vicky during her labour, he realized how much he truly loved her and confessed that he was already married, but that it was years ago to a woman from Gambia who needed a visa. He promised he’d find and divorce her so he could marry Vicky if she would say yes – which she did.
Now Chris is determined to find his ‘wife’ so he can marry Vicky, even though Vicky’s priorities have shifted since their son arrived and she’s told him she isn’t so bothered anymore. But Chris is adamant that this is the right thing to do and has set off, leaving Vicky alone, trying to juggle caring for their baby son Ben with a full-time job.
