Diane and Rick

Diane (Jill Halfpenny) & Rick (Will Mellor) always wanted to have children, and when they were told they weren’t able to conceive naturally they decided to adopt. But as fate would have it, years later a miracle pregnancy delivered them not one baby but two - and Diane and Rick were over the moon to have twins Hope and Zack.

But their dreams of being a big happy family didn’t last long when Rick was made redundant and robbed a bank in a moment of desperation. With her husband stuck in prison, Diane’s having to cope on her own with four kids, no money coming in and the bank knocking on her door.

Now, after spending months apart, their relationship is becoming strained - and as Rick’s release date finally approaches Diane’s worried how he’ll fit back into a home that’s used to being without him. She started working as a childminder in order to save the house but didn't tell Rick, and she doesn’t know what he’ll say when he finds out.

But with the house full of kids, Diane rarely gets a minute to herself - and when she does her mind’s preoccupied with her concerns over baby Hope’s development. After her traumatic delivery and the weeks she spent in Neonatal care, Diane’s anxious she’s not developing at the same speed as her twin brother and every little cough or stumble just adds to Diane's fears.
