The Dawes family

“We have an approach that combines creativity with scientific precision”

Sam (30) and his girlfriend Ellie (31) met when through a performing poetry collective and instantly bonded over their love of food.

Based in London, Sam is a self-confessed science geek and works as a journalist. He loves the science behind food and cookery and is constantly experimenting with different ways to cook, from six-meat lasagne to cryo-blanching beans. He grew up in Hong Kong and his Dad’s Chinese cooking has influenced his cooking today.

Ellie works in the charity sector and along with her mum Sue (60) and they love hosting themed dinner parties at the family home in Havant, Hampshire. Sue is an upholsterer and is often tasked with making all the costumes for Ellie’s parties. Sue taught Ellie everything she knows and they have always shared a love of cooking.

The Karim family

“When you cook as a family we actually have a conversation and we talk, there’s more love.”

Zakila (48) is renowned among colleagues for her homemade samosas which are so popular she’s even started selling them in the office. She’s always the designated chef on Christmas day. Zakila lives in London with her two sons.

Zakila’s Niece Sumiya (18) is currently studying for her A-levels. She is a keen photographer and is constantly taking photos of her cooking. Desserts are her speciality, but she also enjoys making Korean and Japanese food and is in charge of presentation on the team.

Zakila’s sister-in-law Rizwana (36) moved to the UK from Pakistan just over a decade ago when she married Zakila’s brother and now works as a Sales Advisor. Having only cooked traditional Pakistani meals for 21 years, she is used to organic, fresh produce and hates junk food. As well as her Pakistani roots, she also draws inspiration from Zakila’s Moroccan inspired cooking.
