Amitabh Bachchan first gained popularity in the early 1970s for his on-screen roles in Bollywood, and has appeared in countless Indian films in a career spanning more than four decades. A winner of many major awards including National Film Awards for Best Actor and Filmfare awards, he has also been honoured by the Indian government. In 2013, he made his Hollywood debut in Baz Luhrmann’s The Great Gatsby.
