Details of BBC Radio programming, initiatives and events as part of BBC Music.

BBC Radio 1’s Teen Awards will return later this year with a live music event exclusively for 14-17 year olds. The event will showcase performances from some of the biggest pop acts, whilst celebrating some of the UK’s most inspirational young people through Radio 1’s Teen Heroes.

Later in 2014, subject to BBC Trust approval, Radio 1 will be launching a branded space within BBC iPlayer - providing a platform for audiences to enjoy the station’s distinctive content, including Live Lounge performances, regular Radio 1 features such as Innuendo Bingo, and big guest interviews.

BBC Radio 1Xtra Live will take place in November this year, as some of the hottest artists in the world and the biggest names from the urban music scene will descend on Birmingham. In its seventh year, the station’s flagship event will be landing in just one city in 2014 for one big, special event on Saturday 15 November.

BBC Radio 2, which reaches a record audience of 15.6m listeners, will continue to broadcast a wide range of distinctive programmes, from in-depth specialist music documentaries to live music performances.

BBC Radio 2 Live in Hyde Park returns on Sunday 14 September, with a stunning headline performance from Jeff Lynne's iconic ELO accompanied by the BBC Concert Orchestra. This will be the first time the globally acclaimed artist has performed as ELO at any festival since 1986. Also on this year’s impressive line-up are Blondie, Chrissie Hynde, Gregory Porter and Kacey Musgraves amongst others.

The network’s commitment to musical theatre continues later this year with a special programme commemorating Elaine Paige’s 50 years in showbusiness and the broadcast of a special recording of the hit West End show, Miss Saigon, to celebrate its 25th anniversary.

BBC Radio 3 broadcasts distinctive classical music and wider arts programming in three dimensions through radio, live events and context. As the home of classical music, Radio 3 features more live classical music programming than any other and is the home of the BBC Proms, broadcasting every Prom live, and over 600 complete concerts and 90 full-length operas a year.

The station is the most significant commissioner of new musical works in the country and is committed to supporting both new composers and young performers through schemes such as Radio 3’s New Generation Artists.

Forthcoming highlights include: two weeks of programming dedicated to telling the story of World War One through its music (23 June - 6 July); a Jazz On 3 studio session marking the centenary of Sun Ra (30 June); World On 3 broadcasts from world music festival WOMAD (July); music from the York Early Music Festival (10 July - 3 August); a week of live concerts reappraising the work of Brahms in association with St George’s Bristol (6 - 10 October); guides and supplementary content for Ten Pieces; and 14 productions from the Royal Opera House’s 2014/15 season.

BBC Radio 6 Music celebrates the alternative spirit of music and culture, bringing together the cutting-edge music of today and the iconic and ground-breaking sounds of the past 40 years.

Currently on air, 6 Music Celebrates South America with a range of shows getting behind World Cup fever. Also this month, the next series of The First Time With returns and includes Jimmy Page, Arcade Fire, Giorgio Moroder and James Murphy talking about their music loves.

During the week of Le Tour De France in early July, which this year starts in Yorkshire, 6 Music Celebrates Cycling with shows across the network capturing the spirit and celebrating the ever-growing community of cyclists, and exploring the musical choices and passions of world-renowned cyclists. Presenters Gideon Coe and Shaun Keaveny will be broadcasting live from BBC Leeds, including Gideon presenting a special show during the start of Le Grand Départ. Passionate two-wheeler Gideon will be talking to musicians who cycle and cyclists who love music including Paralympic gold medallist Dame Sarah Storey and singer-songwriter Paul Heaton. And bike enthusiasts will be given a chance to create their own playlist in Now Playing. And there’s another chance to hear When Wiggins Met Weller, where the two super mods swaps stories and tunes as they talk about the first records they bought, their shared love of northern soul and r ‘n’ b, and the music that shaped their style.

In October, 6 Music Live at Maida Vale returns for a week of live performances from up-and-coming, current and established artists, and 6 Music will be broadcasting the 2014 John Peel Lecture which this year marks the 10th anniversary of his passing.

This summer, the BBC Asian Network will host the main stage at the Boishakhi Mela - one of the biggest music festivals in the Bangladeshi entertainment calendar in London; as well as covering the biggest Asian music and cultural festival in the capital, the London Mela. DJs Yasser, Kan D Man and DJ Limelight will host the New Music Tent where up-and-coming and unsigned British Asian artists will perform.

In September an exciting collaboration with the BBC Philharmonic Orchestra will celebrate the work of legendary Bollywood composer RD Burman.
