Post Mortem - broadcast in March
5 live Daily will be heading into the examination room to broadcast a coronial post mortem (requested by a coroner to find out how someone died and to decide whether an inquest is needed or not) in ‘real-time’.
It is the first time a UK radio station has broadcast a post mortem in real time. Peter Allen will be live in Addenbrookes hospital with Dr. Chris Smith (from The Naked Scientists) and the hospital’s pathology team as they try to discover a patient’s cause of death.
In addition to performing the autopsy, 5 live will be joined by clinicians and other medical experts to discuss the importance of the post mortem procedure and how the advances in medical science are helping save lives.
Young Commentator of the Year - April
5 live will launch a nation-wide talent search in April to find the best young sports commentator.
Youngsters aged 11 to 15 will be able to enter with a chance to win a day shadowing a 5 live commentator at a sports event and to provide a commentary clip from that day that will feature on the station.
It’s a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity for any budding young sports commentator and along with the main prize they will also get the chance to sit in on a 5 live sport programme; have a showreel of them reading the sport headlines in the BBC Sport TV studio and receive a winner’s trophy.
Throughout the competition there will be a host of video masterclasses online and on 5 live social media from some of the top BBC commentators and pundits to offer advice for the hopefuls.
A panel of experts will choose the winner who will be announced in June.
Junior Doctor’s Diaries (title TBC) - April
BBC Radio 5 live follows three junior doctors as they record their audio diaries of what life is like for them in the NHS.
From the daily medical situations that challenged them to how they manage their relationships with patients and colleagues. The diaries are honest, immediate recollections of the real difficulties and dilemmas they face.
The series will provide listeners with a frank insight into the people who we trust to care for us, the medical techniques and treatments available to them, and the pressures they put themselves under when they try to help.
Wake Up To Money: The Business of Sport - July
Adam Parsons takes a look at the finances of the sport world in a special 5 part series of Wake Up To Money.
From sponsorship to funding, salaries to supporters’ costs, 5 live will be discussing where the money comes from, where it gets spent and who gets what.
Along with delving into the balance sheets of sporting institutions the programme will also take a look at the week’s major finance news affecting sport.
All About Property - May

This May sees the return of All About Property after it launched on the station with a successful three week stint last year. Hosted by Gabby Logan, it is the UK’s first ever radio show dedicated 100% to property. From buying to selling, renting or finding the perfect holiday house, this is where we host the national conversation that’s all about property.
In each show Gabby will be looking at the big property news of the week, along with featuring special guests and live phone-ins with experts on hand for caller’s questions
The series will run for four weeks and there will be two additional special programmes in May and October.
Raising the Bar with Rob Rinder - July
Criminal barrister Rob Rinder is back to explore the legal world. Topics include a focus on international law, terrorism, divorce and juveniles. The six-week series features high-profile guests from across the legal profession and beyond.
Along with his studio guests they will discuss case studies and be presented with a legal scenario and asked how they would handle it. Raising The Bar With Rob Rinder aims to show how the justice system in England and Wales works compared to what we think we know from watching television drama series.
5 Life (title TBC) - July

Fronted by 5 live Drive presenter Anna Foster (pictured) 5 Life will take a look at pregnancy and birth and specifically the challenges so many people face today when trying to start a family. The series will address the issues and topics that face many would-be parents and resonate with both men and women alike.
Delivered through people’s own real life stories and experiences 5 Life will discuss the kind of problems that many people are living through, but very few actually talk about.
