We know our listeners are engaged in politics and always enjoy this chance to talk directly to leading politicians, so I’m in no doubt this will be a passionate debate.
— Jane Garvey

Taking part in the 90-minute live debate, which will be chaired by regular Woman’s Hour host Jane Garvey, are:

  • Helen Whately - Minister for Arts, Heritage and Tourism and Conservative candidate for Faversham and Mid Kent
  • Laura Pidcock - Shadow Secretary of State for Employment Rights, Labour candidate for North West Durham
  • Sarah Wollaston - Liberal Democrat candidate for Totnes
  • Deidre Brock - Scottish National Party candidate for Edinburgh North and Leith
  • Belinda de Lucy - Brexit Party MEP for South East England

The debate, steered by Woman’s Hour listeners asking questions via phone, email and social media, will look at the most important issues in their lives, and reflect a female perspective on the biggest issues of the election.

Jane Garvey says: “We know our listeners are engaged in politics and always enjoy this chance to talk directly to leading politicians, so I’m in no doubt this will be a passionate debate. I also hope for support and understanding for our panel, as it’s never been harder to be a woman on the political frontline.”

The Woman’s Hour Election Debate 2019 airs on BBC Radio 4 on Wednesday 4 December from 10am.

It will be the third debate to be broadcast on the BBC as part of its most ambitious election debate series ever, with the BBC Prime Ministerial Debate between Boris Johnson and Jeremy Corbyn following on Friday 6 December.
