BBC at Mount Stewart Conversations 2019

BBC Northern Ireland presenters Tara Mills and William Crawley and BBC Political Correspondent Ben Wright will be hosting these events as part of a weekend festival in association with the National Trust. It reflects Mount Stewart’s historic associations with UK and wider European politics - including as the home of former British Foreign Secretary, Lord Castlereagh.

All events are free of charge and will take place in a purpose-built marquee.

BBC events at Mount Stewart will include discussions about diplomats and diplomacy; the language of politics, journalism and the problem of fake news; the career and changing reputation of Thomas Cromwell - Henry VIII’s ‘enforcer’; travels and travel writing; Ministers, Prime Ministers and Westminster; international news and the work of foreign correspondents; art, architecture and diplomacy; and the lives of Clementine and Winston Churchill. Each of these discussions will be illustrated by clips from the BBC’s television programme archive.

Amongst those taking part are: former diplomats Dame Nicola Brewer and Bobby McDonagh; New York Times Chief Executive, Mark Thompson; travel writers Monisha Rajesh and Horatio Clare; Boris Johnson’s biographer, Sonia Purnell; and journalists Christina Lamb (The Sunday Times) and Mark Lander (The New York Times).

Due to the anticipated level of demand, tickets will be restricted to two per applicant for each BBC Conversation event. Ticket allocation and venue admission will be on a first come, first served basis.
