BBC Bitesize launches new content to get students ready for the world of work
BBC Bitesize have revealed a brand-new collection of free, online resources offering careers inspiration and advice to UK students, to coincide with National Careers Week (4-9 March 2019).
Published: 1 March 2019

We want to inspire the Bitesize audience by really opening the world of employment up for them; giving them opportunities to discover and explore future careers that play to their strengths and setting them off on a path that enables them to reach their full potential.
BBC Learning will build on its online study service, BBC Bitesize, which is used by over 75% of secondary school pupils and over 40% of primary school pupils to help teenagers develop life skills and make decisions about future study and work.
The brand new articles and videos will cover a very diverse range of job roles across different sectors from construction and trades to creative and media. The content will help students make informed decisions about their next steps, whether that’s GCSE options, post-16 pathways or choices at 18 and beyond.
The new career discovery content delivers on the BBC’s education mission priority to open up the world of employment to young people, at a time when recent CBI research has revealed that 84% of UK businesses feel the quality of careers advice young people receive is not good enough.
Developed with advice from careers experts and partners including the CBI, the CEC and the Gatsby Foundation, and using insight from LMI for All and the National Careers Service, BBC Bitesize will offer a rich and growing collection of over 200 job case studies and supporting content, linking curriculum subjects to the world of work.
Sinead Rocks, Director of Education, BBC, says: “We want to inspire the Bitesize audience by really opening the world of employment up for them; giving them opportunities to discover and explore future careers that play to their strengths and setting them off on a path that enables them to reach their full potential.”
Claudia Harris, Chief Executive of The Careers & Enterprise Company, says: “For 20 years BBC Bitesize has been a valued curriculum resource for students and teachers alike. It’s fantastic news that the BBC are now focusing on creating these engaging, high-quality resources for careers education.
“The world of work is changing at a rate not seen for a generation. It’s more important than ever that we prepare young people for the world of work. These videos could be the spark that inspires and opens up new pathways to young people.
“We are delighted to have worked with the BBC to help bring this brilliant resource to schools and colleges, and we look forward to continuing this work.”
