The Highway Rat, voiced by David Tennant and Rob Brydon amongst other stars, achieved total consolidated audience rating of 6.0 million viewers over the recent festive holiday, with 31.2% share for the Christmas Day premiere, and a further 1.7m consolidated audience for the repeat on New Year’s Day. This follows the success of previous Magic Light productions including The Gruffalo, Stick Man and Roald Dahl’s Revolting Rhymes.

Zog is about a loveable young dragon finding his way in a magical, yet challenging world. The animated half hour is being directed by Max Lang, Oscar nominated director of Room on the Broom and The Gruffalo, and by Daniel Snaddon, co-director of Stick Man, and the film is being produced by Michael Rose and Martin Pope of Magic Light Pictures. Animation services are again being provided by Triggerfish Animation in Cape Town. Zog was first published in 2010 by Alison Green Books (an imprint of Scholastic). It won the Galaxy National Children’s Book of the Year Award and has sold over 1.5 million copies.

Michael Rose, Co-Founder, Magic Light Pictures says: “It’s wonderful to be bringing this amazing Donaldson/Scheffler title to BBC One following The Highway Rat’s success. Zog is a tremendous character in a world of dragons, princesses and knights, an adventure the family can all enjoy watching together."
