Liz joins Victoria Derbyshire from BBC Global News where she worked as the Commissioning Editor delivering current affairs, investigations and debate formats for BBC World News and BBC.com, many of which also run on the BBC News Channel.

Prior to that, Liz was Deputy Editor of Newsnight where, among many other achievements, she devised its coverage of the Arab Spring in the year Newsnight won the RTS Programme of the Year award. She also led the successful development of the Review Show in Glasgow when it took the place of Newsnight Review.

Fran Unsworth, Director of BBC News and Current Affairs, says: “Liz takes on a programme which has achieved an extraordinary level of success in a very short time, winning both BAFTA and RTS awards, and developing a style and agenda that is all its own. We are sure that, under her leadership, the programme’s remarkable list of achievements will continue to grow.”

Commenting on her appointment, Liz Gibbons says: “I’m thrilled to be the new Editor of the Victoria Derbyshire programme. The team has built a formidable reputation for award-winning journalism, surprising and original storytelling, and compelling interviews, and it’s an honour to be joining them.”

First broadcast on BBC Two and the BBC News Channel in 2015, Victoria Derbyshire presents the daily news and current affairs programme each weekday morning offering discussion of breaking stories, exclusive interviews and audience interaction via social media. In 2017, the programme won a BAFTA for its coverage of former footballers who had been sexually abused.

Liz is to take up the role in early June.
