Published: 28 February 2018

We continue to offer the widest range of original content in our daytime schedule and we're constantly seeking out brand new formats that we think viewers will enjoy and learn from.
Two new fast-paced gameshows have been commissioned to play in the afternoons. Hardball, hosted by Ore Oduba (pictured), sees contestants battling against the clock to beat a rolling ball before it can catch up with them; while Chase The Case, presented by Dan Walker, is a new strategy gameshow in which contestants have to trade general knowledge for information in order to secure the briefcase with the biggest prize contained inside it.
In addition, the stories behind some fascinating markets and auction houses will be explored in Coast & Country Auctions, with this new series offering a rare insight these institutions at the heart of coastal and rural economies across the UK.
Finally, in Flipping Profit experienced money makers from three different disciplines are put into competition with each other. Each episode brings together an antiques expert, a wheeler-dealer trader and an inspiring upcycler who then have one day to compete for the best deals in town. The experts featured in the series will include new and familiar faces including Roo Irvine and Kate Bliss.
Dan McGolpin says: “We continue to offer the widest range of original content in our daytime schedule and we're constantly seeking out brand new formats that we think viewers will enjoy and learn from. BBC One has a proud tradition of popular and challenging quiz shows and I’m very pleased to welcome Hardball and Chase The Case to our roster. Both combine general knowledge with compelling game-play and I can’t wait for viewers to see them.
“Coast & Country Auctions will prove that real world places of exchange still have an important relevance to local economies across the UK and in Flipping Profit our viewers will learn an entrepreneurial tip or two in addition to some local history from the wide range of experts whom we’ll be meeting.”

Hardball - BBC One
Hardball is the nail-biting fast-paced quiz hosted by Ore Oduba where the aim of the game is simple - contestants have to get as far away as they can before the ball catches them. Players step up to face the ball on 25 metres of track in front of which they are asked questions that test all aspects of their knowledge on topics as varied as pop music, history, sport and movies. Each question they answer correctly moves them further down the track. But the players are being chased by a ball that never stops - the Hardball. As soon as the ball passes them, the game is over.
Hardball sees six contestants per episode take on the track in a bid to beat the ball. But only one will make it through to the final to try to take home the jackpot of thousands of pounds, if they can beat the ball one last time.
Ore Oduba said: “I absolutely love Hardball, it does exactly what it says on the tin! Like the best quiz shows, a simple format but a game that’s not quite as easy as it first appears.
“I can’t wait to bring a bit of drama to daytime on BBC One. Once that ball starts rolling, it’s very hard to stop... let’s hope our contestants - and the audience - can hold their breath.”

Chase The Case - BBC One
Chase The Case is an exciting new strategy gameshow that trades general knowledge for information, hosted by Dan Walker. Five players begin the game by being given a case containing a secret amount of cash. Players answer questions to win visits to a soundproof secret vault where they can learn information about what’s in their opponents’ cases. As they are never allowed to see inside their own case, the only way to figure out what they are carrying is by the power of deduction. The audience play along at home as they are privy to all of the intelligence acquired in the vault.
In a fast-paced endgame, players attempt to steal each other’s cases via tense head-to-head challenges but only the player who gets over the finish line first will get to open the case they are holding and take home the prize.
Dan Walker says: "I am delighted to be hosting Chase The Case. Within a few minutes of sitting down with the team from Bandicoot it sounded like they had come up with a show that is lively, engaging and audiences can join in the fun and play along at home. I can't wait to start filming."

Coast & Country Auctions - BBC One
Coast & Country Auctions is a new daytime series on BBC One, looking at the stories behind Britain’s most exciting traditional markets and getting under the skin of auction houses that are at the heart of our coastal and rural economies. It follows the viewpoints of auctioneers, buyers and sellers, all of whom have a lot at stake within the walls of these great British institutions. The series is narrated by Stephen Tompkinson.
Each episode will be based in a traditional ‘coast or country’ auction house in different parts of the UK, and across the ten-part series five different auction houses will be visited twice each, with different buyers and sellers featured each time. The locations are:
- Brixham Fish Market in Devon (England’s biggest fish auction)
- Bala Sheepdog Sale in North Wales (the UK’s only twice yearly sheepdog auction)
- Exeter Livestock Market (the biggest livestock sale in the South West)
- The Welsh Cob Autumn Sale in Builth Wells, mid Wales (the world’s largest sale of this highly popular UK horse breed)
- Spalding Veg And Plant Auction (Britain’s oldest and biggest horticultural and veg sale)
Each auction house specialises in very different sales. The series will capture unique stories, offer rare access to some of the more unusual auctions in the UK, and give vivid insights into the ups and downs of Britain’s rural economy.
Coast & Country Auctions begins on Monday 5 March at 3.45pm on BBC One

Flipping Profit
In this new series for the first time, three very different profit hunters are pitted against each other to see who can make the most money. In each episode three different experts in their field - an antiques expert, a wheeler dealer trader and an inspiring upcycler - will visit a town to find the best deals to upcycle, sell or trade. The pressure is on as they’re using their own money and have no set budget. But it’s not about how much they spend, it’s about how much profit they can make.
They have just one day to buy, find and barter for their items. They’ll meet again at the end of the day to compare their wares, talk about the provenance of what they’ve bought, how much they have spent and most importantly what profit they think they will make - and how.
The viewers will then see the experts at work: the upcycler in in their studio transforming their item, the antiques expert researching or meeting potential buyers and the wheeler dealer cleaning up their item and working out the best buyer. At the end of each episode profits are revealed and the expert who has made the biggest profit wins with their revenue going to Children in Need.
Along the way the experts will visit exciting new craftspeople, historical sites or unusual locations across the country. Alongside a host of favourites like Charles Hanson, Philip Serrell, Danny Sebastian, Kate Bliss, Catherine Hawley and Roo Irvine, the audience will be introduced to a raft of exciting new people such as upcyclers Zoe Pocock, Nessa Doran O’Reilly, Micaela Sharp and Stu Abbott; and wheeler dealers like Glasgow’s Gary Barton, Buxton’s Melissa Downhill, London based Tony Wong and Essex’s Linda Lambert.
