Top TV actors become monsters for new CBeebies animated series

Kathy Burke, Sarah Lancashire and Andrew Scott will voice characters in a new 2D animated pre-school series, School Of Roars, about five little monsters as they experience school for the very first time.

The series, which begins on 6 February on CBeebies, has been created by Dot To Dot Productions and was animated at Dot To Dot’s in-house studio in Chiswick.

School Of Roars follows five mini monsters through their school day as they learn monstery lessons in maths, music, cookery and life. The class is taught by the loveable Miss Grizzlesniff, who is voiced by Kathy Burke (Gimme Gimme Gimme). Other voices in the series include Sarah Lancashire (Happy Valley, Last Tango in Halifax) who plays the Headmonstress, Mrs Twirlyhorn and Andrew Scott (Sherlock) who is the narrator, as well as voicing other characters including the cookery teacher Mr Marrow.

School Of Roars will be supported by strong interactive elements including games apps, story apps and a website.

Kathy Burke says: “My character Miss Grizzlesniff is a monster-mazing teacher and very beautiful. She loves her class because every little monster is unique. I was born to play Miss Grizzlesniff. I’ve got lots of friends that are little humans who are very excited about me being in School Of Roars.”

Sarah Lancashire says: “I’m thrilled to be involved in School Of Roars and to be able to bring the rather eccentric Mrs Twirlyhorn to life.”

Andrew Scott says: “I'm really delighted to be part of School Of Roars. I think the little people in my life are gonna love it. It has so much charm and heart, and I'm very prrrroud to be involved.”

School Of Roars (52x7’) was acquired by Kay Benbow, Controller of CBeebies and Jackie Edwards, Head of Acquisitions and Independent Animation. The series was created by Alan Robinson, Head of Development at Dot To Dot and is executive produced by Jo Killingley for Dot To Dot and Sarah Legg for CBeebies.
