It was such a joy to be involved in this year's School Choir of the Year. I was so impressed by the extremely high level of singing and was thrilled to see the obvious dedication and commitment from the students as well as the amazing support from the family and friends who came to cheer them on!

The competition started back in 2003 and since then has attracted thousands of entries from school choirs across the country. So far, over 50,000 young singers have entered, hoping to lift the coveted trophy.

Following two competitive semi-finals rounds televised on Sunday 3 and 10 April, this year’s finalists in the Junior Category are:

  • Hereford Cathedral Junior School, performing Just One Small Voice

Competing in the Senior Category are:

The judges this year are world-famous mezzo-soprano Katherine Jenkins; British choral and orchestral conductor and composer Ken Burton; and West End star Connie Fisher.

Katherine praised the quality of this year’s entrants into the School Choir of the Year competition, saying: “It was such a joy to be involved in this year's School Choir of the Year. I was so impressed by the extremely high level of singing, and was thrilled to see the obvious dedication and commitment from the students as well as the amazing support from the family and friends who came to cheer them on!”

The competition final is presented by Aled Jones at Sheffield City Hall. Aled says: “I'm always amazed at the talent and commitment of the young singers - it’s such an honour to share the stage with them, and a joy to hear them sing. It’s one of the most enjoyable things I do all year.”
