BBC Daytime acquires award-winning Irish drama Red Rock
BBC Daytime has acquired award-winning Irish drama Red Rock from All3Media International.
Daytime viewers are in for a treat with Red Rock. It's a compelling new police drama set in Ireland, it has plenty of twists and turns, and it's coming to the BBC this year.
Produced by Element Pictures and Company Pictures, the 40x60 series will broadcast daily later in the year.
Set around the busy police precinct in a fictional seaside town just outside of Dublin, Red Rock follows the Hennessys and the Kielys, two local warring families. When a bloodied and lifeless body is found on the piers, a longstanding dormant feud between the two families is brutally reignited.
Dan McGolpin, Controller of BBC Daytime, says: “Daytime viewers are in for a treat with Red Rock. It's a compelling new police drama set in Ireland, it has plenty of twists and turns, and it's coming to the BBC this year.”
Stephen Driscoll, EVP Media, All3Media International says: “We are very proud to see Red Rock secure a home on the BBC. Red Rock delivers an engaging cast of characters and storylines that will grip audiences with this original mix of family drama and police procedural.”
Written by Peter McKenna (Doctors, EastEnders, Casualty, Holby City) and directed by Matt Carter (Holby City), Red Rock was met with critical acclaim when it premiered in Ireland in 2015.
Red Rock stars Richard Flood (Killing Kennedy), Andrea Irvine (The Boxer, Evelyn, Ella Enchanted), Cathy Belton (Philomena, Roy, The Tiger’s Tale), Denise McCormack (1,000 Times Goodnight), Liam Carney (Gangs Of New York, Braveheart), Paul Roe (Veronica Guerin) and Jane McGrath (Game Of Thrones).
The series is produced by Element Pictures and Company Pictures, and the executive producers are Ed Guiney and John Yorke.
