The One Show announces Michelle Ackerley and Angela Scanlon as cover for Alex Jones

Dan McGolpin, BBC Controller of Daytime and Early-Peak, has announced that Michelle Ackerley and Angela Scanlon will host The One Show with Matt Baker, whilst Alex Jones is on maternity leave.

Michelle and Angela will jointly cover Alex’s role. Michelle will appear on Mondays and Tuesdays, with Angela covering Thursdays and Fridays.

Michelle and Angela will alternate on Wednesdays. Matt Baker will continue to be covered by guest presenters on Fridays.

Angela is co-host of BBC Two's Robot Wars and hosts a weekly show on Virgin Radio. She has made documentaries for Ireland’s RTE, hosted holiday programme Getaways for BBC NI and presented live coverage of music festivals and BAFTA's for BBC Three. Michelle is part of BBC One’s Watchdog team, and presents Crimewatch Roadshow and Council House Crackdown for BBC One Daytime .

Both Michelle and Angela have presented and made films for The One Show in the past. They are expected to start in January.

I have always been a massive fan of The One Show and love being part of that wonderful family so I really can't wait to get started."

Full Biographies

Michelle Ackerley

Michelle grew up in Manchester and has a degree in Psychology. She joined the BBC as a programme maker in 2005, and has worked across a wealth of shows within Entertainment, Children’s & Current Affairs.

She is the presenter of popular BBC Daytime show Council House Crackdown. Here Michelle follows investigators as they crack down on rogue social housing tenants, seize their homes and give them to families in genuine need. Michelle has been part of the BBC One Watchdog team for two years where she's not afraid to take on a challenge and help affect change for the viewers at home.

Michelle is an accomplished live presenter. She is the live location reporter for Crimewatch Roadshow where she takes to the streets of Britain to appeal for help with unsolved cases. Within this show she also gets a closer look at the emergency services and has done everything from abseiling down the Brecon Beacons with the Mountain Rescue team - to taking part in a full scale riot training exercise at Gravesend training facility.

She's also presented live on the red carpet for the children's BAFTA's and for the BBC's Sport Relief team. Michelle is also a regular reporter on Inside Out Northwest covering stories that affect the local community.

Angela Scanlon

Having worked as a journalist Angela moved into television with her first major documentary, Oi Ginger, airing in 2014 on Ireland’s RTE to critical acclaim (even trending worldwide on twitter). The success of the show led to a follow up series, Angela Scanlon: Full Frontal where she tackled taboo subjects like extreme makeovers, fitness and Tinder.

Her follow up series Angela Scanlon’s Close Encounters (RTE/BBC) saw her dive into the world of WWE with world champion Sheamus, heading to New York to chat books and babies with Dawn O’Porter and even tackling Katie Hopkins.

In 2015 Angela landed a role as digital host of BBC One’s The Voice. Shortly after, she co-hosted BBC’s live coverage of T in the Park and most recently fronted BBC Three’s Red Carpet BAFTA Show interviewing nominees including Michael Fassbender, Eddie Redmayne, Idris Elba and Kate Winslet.

She currently co-hosts BBC Two show Robot Wars alongside Dara O’Briain. Angela also has a weekly radio show on Virgin with Russell Kane. She has recently returned finished filming BBC Three documentary Trumps Unlikely Superfans.
