Joe’s first panel of celebrity guests - to be quizzed on how people close to them answered certain questions - will include television presenter Tim Lovejoy, and comedians Holly Walsh and Nish Kumar.

He takes over from Miles Jupp, who having hosted the popular series from its inception in 2012, now hosts Radio 4’s The News Quiz.

Joe Lycett says: “We had the most terrific fun recording the new series of It's Not What You Know and I personally can't wait for audiences to hear about Adrian Chiles' worrying eating habits, discover Nish Kumar's homicidal mother, and enjoy me having an argument with Vanessa Feltz.”

As one of today’s best-loved comedy stars, Joe is no stranger to BBC radio and has made a host of appearances on shows including Radio 4’s Just a Minute and The Unbelievable Truth, Radio 1’s Breakfast Show with Nick Grimshaw and The Scott Mills Show, and Radio 5 Live’s Afternoon Edition.

BBC Radio Comedy’s Executive Editor, Julia McKenzie, says: "Anyone who heard Joe in the final of our New Comedy Award in 2011 knew that he had something special and since then he has made his mark as a highly distinctive, assured and hilariously funny performer. His mischievousness is irresistible and his star quality undoubted so we are delighted that he has taken up the role of host."

Joe has also performed stand-up on the likes of BBC One’s Live At The Apollo, Channel 4’s 8 Out Of 10 Cats Does Countdown, ITV’s Sunday Night At The Palladium and ITV2’s Celebrity Juice.

Whilst at the University of Manchester in 2009, Joe won Chortle Student Comedian of the Year. The following year he won Best Newcomer in the Chortle Awards, and he was awarded Best Show in this year’s awards for his acclaimed show That’s The Way A-ha, A-ha, Joe Lycett.

The fourth series of It’s Not What You Know, hosted by Joe Lycett, begins on Thursday 29 September at 6.30pm on BBC Radio 4.
