The Northern Irish actor takes on the role of Greig Roth, a retired Special Forces officer who finds the transition from military to domesticity tricky. Along with his wife Lorna (Alana Hood) and daughters Frankie (Lorna McMenemy) and Katie (Libby Dye), the Roth family attempt to settle into a new life in Shieldinch. However, as this is the first time they’ve lived under the same roof for a decade, it’s going to be a difficult transition… for everyone.

Glen started filming on River City in recent weeks and will make his on-screen debut in December. The Co Antrim actor, who is relishing his River City role, says: “I am delighted to work in Glasgow and join the rest of the team at River City. Grieg is an interesting character with a superb and complex back story that I can't wait to get my teeth into. The Roth family dynamic has a lot of potential and I have loved working with the three girls over the last couple of weeks.

“There's a sign on one of the walls as the train pulls into Glasgow Central claiming that the 'People make Glasgow', well they weren't lying! I have been made to feel very welcome since coming up both on set and in and around the town. In many ways it's a lot like Belfast which I obviously have a lot of love for so I think I'm going to thoroughly enjoy myself up here... despite the weather. Like I said, it's a lot like Belfast!”

River City’s Executive Producer, Kieran Hannigan welcomes Glen to the cast: “Glen is a massive talent and a real soap favourite - we’re delighted to have him on board at River City. He is a great addition to the team and joins an incredible cast. Glen’s on-screen family, The Roths, will make quite an impact on the Shieldinch community over the coming weeks and months.”

Glen is the latest new name to join the cast alongside Kathryn Howden (The Slab Boys, Outlander) who takes on the role of Ellie and Caitlin McLean’s mother, Maggie and Ron Donachie (Loch Ness, Atlantis) as Mikey, a character who will have a key storyline connected to Pete Galloway, played by Andy Gray.

This year, a number of new faces have joined the cast of River City, including Simon Webbe (Blue), Rebecca Atkinson (Shameless), Alana Hood (Bridget Jones’s Baby, Field Of Blood, Lip Service), Juliet Cadzow (Balamory, Skins) and TV newcomers Louise McMenemy and Libby Dye.

Best known for his role of Malachy Fisher in Hollyoaks and DS Bryant in Eastenders, Glen’s soap credentials saw him nominated for Best Actor, Best Dramatic Performance and Best Exit at The British Soap Awards, the TV Quick & TV Choice Awards, The Inside Soap Awards and the Royal Television Society Awards. He has also starred in the likes of The Secret, Wire In The Blood, Casualty and the multi-award winning Holy Cross for BBC Films.

River City is part of BBC Scotland’s commitment to produce distinctive Scottish output and complements productions including BAFTA Scotland award-winning Shetland (BBC One), Still Game (BBC One), Two Doors Down (BBC Two) and One Of Us (BBC One).
