I’m delighted to be joining Junior Bake Off as a judge. This time last year I was in the Bake Off tent and now I get to go back and help encourage the next generation to get their bake on.
— Nadiya Hussain, GBBO 2015 Winner

The series sees Nadiya swap roles, from being judged in the tent to being a judge working alongside top international chef and food writer Allegra McEvedy, to assess the bakes of the budding young bakers.

Sam and Mark (Sam Nixon and Mark Rhodes) return to present the BAFTA award-winning series, which is made by Love Productions, producers of the hit format The Great British Bake Off.

Forty of the country's best junior bakers, aged nine to 12, will enter the infamous Bake Off tent. Over 10 heats their cake-making, biscuit-baking, pastry and bread-making skills will be tested to the limit.

In each of the heats they face two challenges, the Technical Bake and the Showstopper, where, while baking to the judges’ exacting briefs, they can let their imaginations run wild. Only four junior bakers will make it through to the grand final and ultimately there can only be one winner of Junior Bake Off 2016.

Nadiya Hussain says: "I’m delighted to be joining Junior Bake Off as a judge. This time last year I was in the Bake Off tent and now I get to go back and help encourage the next generation to get their bake on. I am so excited to have this opportunity."

Cheryl Taylor, Controller of CBBC, says: “The CBBC audience will be thrilled to see Nadiya join Allegra as the new Junior Bake Off judge. Nadiya is an exacting baker but is also a huge inspiration to a new generation of bakers. She is also a born entertainer - and I can’t wait to see her giving our young contestants and Sam and Mark a run for their money!”

Susanne Rock, Executive Producer for Love Productions adds “We are thrilled that Junior Bake Off is back for a consecutive year and the response has been incredible with more young bakers applying than ever before. We are also delighted to welcome Nadiya as a judge who, alongside Allegra, will test the contestants’ bakes.

"As the winner of last year’s Great British Bake Off, Nadiya proved herself to be one of the most talented, committed and hardworking bakers the tent has ever seen and, as we have heard during the audition process, she is an inspiration to many of the young bakers. I’m sure they will be as excited as we are that she’ll be joining Allegra, Sam and Mark to make this year’s Junior Bake Off an outstanding series.”
