Speaking at the 2016 Edinburgh Television Festival, Charlotte Moore, Director of BBC Content, said: "It's been another exceptional year for BBC One, achieving its best peak time share since 2008 and cementing its place as the nation's most popular channel through a commitment to risk taking and innovation.

Actress Thandie Newton announced to star as guest lead in the fourth series of Jed Mercurio’s hit drama Line of Duty, when it moves to BBC One next year.

The Split examines the fast-paced circuit of high-powered female divorce lawyers, through the lens of three sisters - Hannah, Nina and the youngest, Rose. Hannah and Nina are leading divorce and family law lawyers working for rival firms, whilst Rose is still searching for her place in life.

A stunningly innovative six-part series for BBC One using dynamic and compelling narrative techniques of long-running drama serials, where multiple storylines are woven together, to tell the real life stories of some of the most charismatic animals in Africa. There’s an unspoilt corner of the Serengeti, bordered by two rivers, that is the Africa of your imagination. Unique access to this incredible setting offers a once in a lifetime opportunity to create a bold new genre of natural history filmmaking and drama storytelling.
The production will use specially created camera devices, including moving spy cameras, to film the animals of the Serengeti on the move and in their world, experiencing their every emotion. It will be sweepingly cinematographic in scale but also intensely intimate. As the animals act out the natural dramas of their lives, the cameras will be just a whisker away - moving with them at their level and in their world.
Multiple specialist cameras will be deployed at any one time ensuring not moment of the incredible action will be missed. New near-silent aerial devices and the latest drone technology will provide a vulture’s viewpoint as the events unfold. Shot in Ultra HD with high dynamic range (HDR) the images will have a clarity that leaps out of the screen. The series will also pioneer the use of VR 360 degree shooting.
Equally innovative approaches to editing, music and narration will deliver their personal stories in a startlingly fresh and exciting way. From warthogs to lions, mongoose to cheetahs, a cast of our favourite African animal characters will be filmed closer and more intimately than ever before.
Through this bold and pioneering dramatised approach, the audience will be closer and more emotionally involved with the wild lives of animals than ever before. Serengeti is made by XIX Entertainment and John Downer Productions and was commissioned by Tom McDonald, Head of Commissioning, Natural History and Specialist Factual. The Commissioning Editor is Lucinda Axelsson and the Executive Producer is John Downer for JDP and Simon Fuller for XIX Entertainment. It will be distributed internationally by BBC Worldwide.
Stalkers
Wild Pictures has gained exclusive access to Paladin, the National Stalking Advocacy Service, who assist high risk victims of stalking for this single BBC One documentary.
Stalking in Britain is significantly on the increase. It’s estimated that one in six women are stalked at some point in their life. Nearly 50 percent of the cases turn violent and many victims are forced to flee their homes and change jobs.
Following live unfolding cases, from the abusive phone call to attacks on the family home, the documentary will give an extraordinary insight into a terrifying crime from the victim’s perspective. Many describe the experience as being constantly hunted. Victims often feel let down by the criminal justice system and the documentary will explore why only 1 percent of stalking cases result in a criminal conviction.
Stalkers is a single 60’ documentary, produced and directed by Kat English. Paul Hamann and Tom Anstiss are the Executive Producers for Wild Pictures.
