Our guests have no-where to hide - the emotions that individual songs evoke are evident as soon as they hear the opening chords!
— James Acaster

Part-chat show, part-music video, the 15-part series of shorts sees James Acaster invite guests including Mystery Jets, Raleigh Ritchie, Scroobius Pip, Izzy Bizu, Oh Wonder, Wolf Alice, Big Narstie, Shura, Tom from The Wanted, Billy Bragg and Vanessa from the Saturdays to discuss randomly selected tracks from their personal collections, as performers recreate key elements of their conversation around them.

James will get to the heart of what each song means to guests, hearing about their inspirations, their recollections and what emotions each song triggers within them, before ending each episode with a specially choreographed routine inspired by their chat.

James Acaster says: “This is a fascinating series to film as our guests have no-where to hide, they can’t ignore their guilty pleasures if that’s what the device selects and the emotions that individual songs evoke are evident in their initial reactions as soon as they hear the opening chords!

Damian Kavanagh, Controller, BBC Three, says: “Sounds Random is exactly the kind of creative, distinctive, anarchic risk-taking we want at BBC Three. You are going to love it.”

Sohail Shah, Assistant Commissioner for BBC Entertainment, says: “If you’ve ever wondered what your favourite music acts are listening to, James Acaster is going to tell you in his own inimitable way. You’ll be surprised at what you see and hear in Sounds Random.”

Rumpus Media Managing Director and Executive Producer, Iain Wimbush, says: “This is Desert Island Discs without limits and without a desert island. There will be no skipping or rewinding, whatever the music player chooses, they will talk about.”

Lucy Ansbro from Phil McIntyre Television said: “Sounds Random is a great format and we’re really delighted to have James bring it all together with his sharp wit, warm humour and passion for music.”

Sounds Random will be available from BBC Three on Monday 25 April.

Sounds Random was commissioned by Damian Kavanagh, Controller, BBC Three and Sohail Shah, Assistant Commissioner for BBC Entertainment.
