John Legend added to BBC Music Awards bill and shortlist announced for BBC Radio 1 Live Lounge Performance of the Year
John Legend is to join the star-studded line up of artists performing at the BBC Music Awards 2016.

Also announced today are the five shortlisted artists for the BBC Music Award’s inaugural BBC Radio 1 Live Lounge Performance of the Year Award. The winner will be announced at the Awards ceremony which will be broadcast live on BBC One on Monday 12 December.
Voted for by the Radio 1 Playlist Committee chaired by Radio 1 and 1Xtra Head of Music, Chris Price, the nominees are as follows:
- Christine and the Queens performing Sorry (Beyoncé cover) on 13 Sept 2016
- Craig David performing Love Yourself (Justin Bieber cover) on 7 January 2016
- Emeli Sandé performing Hurts on 16 September 2016
- The 1975 Live Lounge Symphony performing What Makes You Beautiful (One Direction cover) on 30 September 2016
- Usher performing Climax on 2 September 2016

This new category for the BBC Music Awards 2016 celebrates the best of live performance. In her Radio 1 shows from Monday to Friday (10am-1pm) this week, Clara Amfo - whose show is the home of Radio 1’s Live Lounge - is revealing the shortlisted artists to her listeners.
Radio 1’s Live Lounge is known for attracting some of the biggest and best new artists in the world, from Adele, Coldplay, Taylor Swift and Ed Sheeran to Slaves and James Bay, lining up to perform their own hits as well as unexpected covers.





The winner will be revealed at the BBC Music Awards 2016 hosted by Fearne Cotton, Claudia Winkleman and Gemma Cairney at the ExCeL London on Monday 12 December from 8.30-10pm. The show will be broadcast live on BBC One and bbc.co.uk/music with additional coverage on BBC Radio 1 and BBC Radio 2.
Now in its third year, the BBC Music Awards 2016 will feature five awards:
- BBC Music British Artist of the Year
- Song of the Year
- BBC Music Introducing Artist of the Year
- BBC Radio 1 Live Lounge Performance of the Year
- BBC Radio 2 Album of the Year
Performers on the night will include Kaiser Chiefs, Craig David, Lukas Graham, Zara Larsson, Emeli Sandé, Robbie Williams and The 1975.
The shortlists for BBC Music British Artist of the Year, BBC Music Introducing Artist of the Year and Song of the Year will be announced shortly. Public voting for the Song of the Year award will take place on Wednesday 7 December.
The BBC Music Awards will premiere in the US on BBC America on 14 December.
On the day of the Awards, Radio 2 will present the Steve Wright Show Music Awards Special between 2-5pm, with live inserts from the dress rehearsals at the ExCel London. Radio 1 joins the party between 4-7pm as Greg James broadcasts live from backstage and the Red Carpet with exclusive interviews and sessions. It’s then back to Radio 2 from 8-10pm as Jo Whiley continues the exclusive programming from backstage, giving listeners a sneak peek behind the scenes whilst the Awards are broadcast on BBC One.
