BBC iPlayer Performance Pack - February and March 2016
March was a strong month for both BBC iPlayer and BBC iPlayer Radio, with total figures up 3 per cent compared to February. A top-quality drama schedule contributed to this month’s strong performance. Increases were seen across computer and big screen devices.

- Dramas dominated BBC iPlayer’s TV requests in March. Episode three of The Night Manager earned more than 2 million requests, with every one of the six episodes getting at least 1 million requests (including episodes one and two, which first became available in February). New BBC Three drama Thirteen was another big drama hit, with episodes one to five all featuring in the top 20 programmes this month and the first episode delivering 1.9 million requests alone. Elsewhere, the BBC Three documentary Sex in Strange Places also did well.
- Episode one in the new series of The Now Show was the most popular BBC iPlayer Radio episode this month with 161k requests. The Archers also proved popular this month along with Charles Paris Mystery.
Note: we have included February top 20 tables in this report as well as March.
Consistent with previous months:
- The profile of BBC iPlayer users has evened out over time in terms of male/female ratio, but remains strongly under-55 in terms of age, which is younger than the typical TV viewer or radio listener’s profile (although more in line with home broadband users).
- BBC iPlayer is used for TV at roughly the same time of day as linear TV viewing, although there is proportionally more daytime and late-peak use. BBC iPlayer Radio is used far more in daytime than traditional radio listening, which peaks at breakfast-time.
