CBBC Live in NewcastleGateshead announced
CBBC has today announced that it will be heading to the North East of England this May for three action-packed days of events and live broadcasts from Gateshead and Newcastle – and everyone is invited.

CBBC Live in NewcastleGateshead, which is a collaboration between BBC North, NewcastleGateshead Initiative, Gateshead Council and Newcastle City Council, will bring some of the channel’s biggest stars and programmes to the famous quayside for three days of fun-filled events and activities from 29 to 31 May.
As well as watching some of CBBC’s most-loved shows live and getting the chance to see some of their favourite CBBC stars close-up, children will also be given the opportunity to try some ‘hands-on’ activities in one of the special interactive zones created by BBC Learning, including attending preview screenings, trying out new digital content or having a go at something sporty.
CBBC Live in NewcastleGateshead which will take place in and around Baltic Square, follows last year’s successful CBBC Live in Leeds event that saw more than 40,000 people visit over three days to enjoy live broadcasts, interactive zones and ‘hands-on’ activities.
Hacker T Dog from the CBBC office, said: “Cocker! I can’t wait for Live in Leeds the sequel - live from NewcastleGateshead, it’s going to be top notch! I’ve never been to Newcastle or Gateshead before… are they like Wigan where I'm from? Hope they sell meat paste.”
Children from across the UK will be able to watch programmes broadcast live from the quayside, and can also join in the fun online.
Popular CBBC programmes made in the North East of England include dramas Wolfblood and The Dumping Ground which are both filmed in and around Rowlands Gill, newly commissioned drama Hattie’s Army which is filming across the region including in Stanley and Tynemouth, and brand new documentary series Our School, filmed on location in a school near to Middlesbrough.
