Sam Bickley says: “BBC Three continues to be the only channel committed to bringing important and current issues to young viewers in an engaging and meaningful way. This raft of new commissions featuring brilliant young presenters in Reggie, Stacey and Tyger, shows that BBC Three is still at the top of its game producing exciting programmes which encompass the BBC’s public purposes in every way.”
The programmes are:
Reggie Yates: Extreme Russia (w/t) – 3 x 60’
In this new series of films, Reggie Yates travels to Russia to look at the lives of three very different sets of young Russians: gay men and women in St Petersburg; extreme ultranationalists in Moscow, and would-be supermodels in Siberia, and tries to get a handle on the world’s largest country.
In Young, Russian And Gay, a year after the introduction of the controversial Anti-Propaganda Law, Reggie travels to Russia, the hardest place to be gay in Europe. He spends time with young Russians on both sides of the battle lines, including gay activists and outspoken homophobes to try and understand what makes them tick and ultimately what they think it means to be a Russian man.
In Young Model Citizens, Reggie looks at the Russian modelling industry where girls as young as 12 are paraded in the hope their looks will get them noticed by visiting recruiters looking for fresh faces. But how likely is it that they will succeed? To find out, Reggie embeds with Noah Models - one of the most established modelling agencies in Russia - as they embark on a 10 day model scouting mission in frozen Siberia.
In Russia For The Russians, Reggie asks if there is anything wrong with loving your country and idolizing your leader, and questions what it means to be a true Russian. He’ll train with knife-wielding far right nationalists, go on raids with illegal migrant hunting vigilante groups, talk to young artists who idolize Putin…. and on the other side meet with migrants who live in constant fear of racist attacks.

Tyger Takes On: 2 x 60’

Tyger is part of the first generation to have free rein and unprecedented access to go and explore sexuality in all its shapes and sizes without having to conform to the neat box categories of the past.
In Tyger Takes On: Sexuality, Tyger will explore the blurring boundaries of 21st century sexuality.
In Tyger Takes On: Battle of the Sexes (W/T), Tyger goes on his own personal journey to look at the different attitudes men and women have towards each other, and explores the question - when does banter stop and sexism start?
From Roughcut TV. Neil Calow and Alannah Richardson are executive producers. BBC commissioning editor is Elliot Reed.
Extreme at 18 (W/T ) – 1 x 60’
Young people have stopped voting in their droves, as they’re increasingly taking politics into their own hands – from closing down power stations and fracking companies to occupying flagship stores of major retailers. Extreme at 18 (w/t) follows a number of young activists into their secretive worlds as they risk their futures trying to stand up for what they believe in.
From Voltage TV. Executive producer is Sanjay Singhal. BBC commissioning editor is Elliot Reed.
Stacey Dooley: No Place for a Girl – 2 x 60’
In Britain today the biggest worries for young women are their weight, their salary and the state of their relationship. But in other parts of the world it’s a very different story. Murder, kidnapping and sexual exploitation are daily hazards for millions of girls and young women.
Just last year the World Health Organisation declared violence against women a global health epidemic. In this hard hitting and revelatory two-part series, Stacey Dooley will journey to some of the worst places in the world to be female to investigate why women in these countries are forced to live in such dangerous and desperate situations.
In Gunning For Girls, Stacey travels to Honduras, currently the most dangerous place in the world to be a woman – where a female is murdered every 13 hours - and uncovers how years of conflict and civil war have led to them being routinely targeted and killed.
In Kidnappings, Killings and Chaos, Stacey travels to Nigeria to see what it’s like for women to live in the shadow of one of the world’s most extreme terrorist groups, Boko Haram. Despite a recent truce between the government and Boko Haram, experts say women’s rights are being eroded faster in parts of Nigeria than anywhere else on the planet.
