Born and brought up in Bridgend, Gareth is a familiar voice and face on BBC Wales’s output having presented Scrum V and more recently, Radio Wales Drive. He has also been BBC Wales’s Westminster Correspondent.

Gareth has covered numerous elections both for the Senedd and Westminster; the Brexit referendum; the pandemic as well as the often tumultuous world of Welsh sport.

Gareth said: “I’m really looking forward to covering what will be another defining period in politics with a General Election on the horizon, the probability of a new First Minister as well as the ongoing debates around the future of the NHS, climate change and the economy. I feel it’s a great privilege and I can’t wait to take up the role.”

Welcoming his appointment, Delyth Isaac, Head of News and Current Affairs, BBC Cymru Wales said: “An outstanding journalist, Gareth brings a wealth of experience and knowledge to the role of Political Editor. Through his insightful and sharp interviews, Gareth asks the difficult questions that are front of mind for audiences in a way that’s interesting and engaging. I’m delighted to welcome Gareth to the role.”

Gareth predecessor, Felicity Evans was recently appointed BBC Cymru Wales’s Money Editor. A new presenter of BBC Radio Wales’s Drive will be announced shortly.
