Rhydian says: “It’s an honour to get to wake up Wales from Monday to Friday. Music is everything to me, it’s what gets me up in the morning and puts me in the right mood to start the day. I can’t wait to share that with the audience.”
Lisa says: “I can’t imagine my life without music, and it’s been an absolute joy to have given a platfform to so much popular new music on Radio Cymru for many years. I’m now looking forward to being part of the exciting plans to expand Radio Cymru 2, and to ensure that even more people across the counrty get to hear the music I’m so passionate about!”
Dom James, who comes from Cardiff, is a musician who’s a familiar face on Hansh and BBC Sesh – S4C and BBC Wales’ digital services.
Dafydd Meredydd says: “Today’s announcement highlights Radio Cymru 2’s commitment to reach a new audience, and is another step closer towards two national Welsh language radio services. In Rhydian and Lisa we have two amazing presenters who understand the craft of presenting popular radio shows and who are ready for the next steps in their careers. In Dom, we have a name that’s new to a radio audience and is full of character and personality, who loves music and I know the Radio Cymru 2 audience will love spending time in his company on Fridays.”
The announcement comes following BBC Cymru Wales’ statement of intent to expand Radio Cymru 2 in August. Any additional hours will be dependent on further reulatory approval. Rhydian Bowen Phillips will continue to present Sioe Sadwrn (Saturday Show) every Saturday with Shelley Rees on BBC Radio Cymru. And as Lisa Gwilym moves to Radio Cymru 2, Mirain Iwerydd will present a new music show on Radio Cymru every Wednesday evening between 7pm and 9pm.
