Without fear or favour: journalism under pressure around the world
On the International Day to End Impunity for Crimes Against Journalists, we stand with our media colleagues around the world
Donate in support of our work
These are difficult days in which to be a journalist. Some 36 journalists and media workers have been killed in the first 10 months of 2023, and 363 remain imprisoned. Media outlets around the world are under heavy financial, legal and political pressures. Journalists too often face harassment and physical danger.
On International Day to End Impunity for Crimes Against Journalists, we stand with our journalist and media colleagues around the world who are working in increasingly difficult conditions. Trusted, impartial information has never been more critical.
Our work supports public interest media in more than 20 countries - from supporting journalists to access hostile environment training courses in Ukraine, to supporting local journalists to report accurately during a deeply polarised election campaign in Sierra Leone.
