In an official poll, 5,000 people across Greater Manchester were asked for their thoughts along with a thousand businesses. When asked about the average £5 a day charge, 53 per cent of people supported the idea of a congestion charge, with 40 per cent against. But there was less support among businesses with 41 per cent in favour and 50 per cent against - very different to the poll commissioned by Peel Holdings recently which suggested that 80% of businesses in Greater Manchester were opposed to road pricing.
