Now in its third year, the Festival promises us 'twice as many screenings and an extended programme of premieres, gala presentations, masterclasses, debates, industry events and parties' throughout the 10 day celebration. Apart from the main features the Festival once again offers special themes including Womenwealth (contrasting portraits of women in the Commonwealth), Queerscreen (the best in new gay and lesbian cinema), a celebration of the recent explosion in low budget Nigerian Cinema - also known as 'Nollywood' - and Other Views On The News, international films offering different perspectives on world events. Documentaries, Shorts and Experimental films will also take their well deserved place. Once again Manchester will be at the centre of Commonwealth creativity and will act as a showcase to the way diverse cultures can find a common voice through cinema. Check back over the next few days for further details of this year's Festival. In a nutshell: Commonwealth Film Festival runs from 30 April to 9 May, 2004 at AMC Great Northern and Cornerhouse
