If there is one thing that defines Liverpudlians, it's accent. But what makes our local language so rich is not only the way we speak, but the actual words and phrases we use.

For instance - if we say "don't be sly" - you're likely to be a little backwards in spending money. If you "have a cob on" - you're angry. If you're "standing there like one of Lewis's" - then you're not working as you should.... and the sun doesn't shine here, it "cracks the flags".

Of course, being a seaport, a special language has developed in the form of dockers' nicknames, which not only reflect the richness of the local dialect but also the strong sense of humour for which Scousers are world reknowned.
