Ever wish to be a superstar actor, top military personal, superstar athlete, or even a feared mobster? Well you can have your dream life as Maxis back with it latest sequel for The Sims, The Sims: Bustin' Out. After The Sims had a successful jump from PC to PS2, X-BOX, and GameCube, this sequel is hoping to be a better game than the original.
The concept of The Sims is to control a person (sim), to do anything in everyday life. Users can control and decide of everything about the sim including appearance, social life, everyday routine, and of course, the lifestyle. That means users can decide what and when the sim can eat, bath or sleep, who the sim can befriend, what the sim should wear, and of course what and how the sim should decorate the house. The Sims consists of two play modes which are the Bustin' Out mode and free play mode. In Bustin' Out mode, users need to guide the sim from lowly loser into a millionaire. Users can choose one from seven possible career challenges (Movie Star, Mad Scientist, Gangster, Fashion Victim, Athlete, and Paramilitary). In this mode, users need to carefully plan so the sim has good morale and spirits to gain promotion into the next level. The game play is quite difficult to understand and it needs at least an hour's playing time for users to learn the controls and basics of the game. The other thing that makes the game difficult to play is its complicated menus. The game also takes a very long time to play as users have to control every single detail of sim life; so users can become restless and the game becomes a tad boring to play.
The graphics of this game are very simple but detailed. The sims were drawn in detail and in depth even though it looks simple and plain. The music varies depending on the mode of the career chosen. Users can enjoy different kinds of music from hip-hop, dance or even classical. The sounds effects are also very good and were adopted well for every activity. The downside of the game is the voice of the characters which is horrible. The Sims: Bustin' Out looks more like an expansion than a sequel of the game. The concept of the game is unique but the terrible presentation of the makes it very difficult to play. Buy this game if you want to pretend that you actually have a life. Harsh... But fair.
