After another fantastic year of sporting achievement, the BBC East Midlands Sports Awards 2007 took place at the Assembly Rooms in Derby to honour the cream of the crop. From the four fantastic East Midlands sports personalities, Leicester Tigers' Martin Corry scooped the Personality of the Year award. The nominations were Leicestershire's Martin Corry, Crista Cullen and Mark Selby, along with Ryan Sidebottom - a Nottinghamshire cricket player who has represented England in several Test Series. BBC Leicester's Bill Rice spoke to Corry about his year so far... Help playing audio/video Despite his nomination Corry remained modest making it clear that credit should go to the Tigers: "Rugby in my mind is the ultimate team game, individuals can't perform unless the whole team around them performs. "Thankfully the team on the whole have been performing, so if we get some recognition on what we're doing as a team then that's great." ![]() BBC East Midlands Sports Awards Listen: All About CullenCrista Cullen is a Leicester Ladies' Hockey player who has represented England in the Hockey World Cup, and is renowned for her specialist penalty goals. Ben Jackson spoke to Cullen's teamate Jo Mould, who is also an ex-Leicester and England player... Help playing audio/video At the age of 22 Cullen has carved out a distinguished career for herself and has already won other awards. Jo commented, "She's everything you'd want a female athlete to be; she's skillful, she works hard, she does have this specialist skill at penalty corners, and there's a lot there for young people to aspire to." ![]() Leicester's Mark Selby Listen: Mark Selby InterviewMark Selby - a Leicester-born professional snooker and pool player who was narrowly beaten in the World Snooker Championships 2007 final by John Higgins after a heroic come back. Ben Jackson caught up with Selby to find out what he thought of the award nomination... Help playing audio/video Selby was the 2006 World Eight-ball champion and is currently ranked 11th in the snooker world rankings. He gave his thoughts on his world ranking, "It's great, it's always been my aim ever since I was a lad. "Obviously I want to go higher and higher, aim for number one. Hopefully I can go one better next year and win the World title."
