Meet Grace Berrington - she's 83-years-old and from Leicester. When she heard about BBC Radio Leicester's 40th anniversary and the Ruby Rainbow Appeal she decided that she wanted to help in a 'high flying' way.

Grace describes her experience as absolutely smashing and suggests that everybody ought to have a go at it. She even managed to pick up a toy boy on the day! Grace was strapped tight to tandem instructor Mike Gorman during her 55 second free fall.

Record Breaker

To participate, Grace needed to raise £350, but she has already smashed that target by raising a staggering £850, with up to £400 still to come in.

Not only has Grace managed to help the Ruby Rainbow Appeal, it seems that she's also a record breaker! Sarah Staines from Rainbows thinks that the oldest person to have previously sky dived for the charity was in his seventies.

Pre-Skydive

Building up to Grace's skydive she rang in to BBC Radio Leicester for advice on fundraising, insurance and the ins and outs of the jump.

Not many 83-year-olds would even consider the idea of free-falling through the sky, but Grace thought that now was the perfect time to do it.

"Before Christmas I was telling my mates that I want to jump out of a plane, so I thought with Rainbows coming up, that would be a good idea to raise some money."

"I wanted to do something before I get old... this is what I wanted to do for the new year."
