Have you been to Summer Sundae before?Yeah I've been here two years ago in the hall but it was quite a small one. That was before I had my band and before I'd got all my songs together but it was good. Did you have much of a crowd then?| "The first festival I probably went to was probably this one [Summer Sundae]" | | James Morrison |
Not really when I came on stage it was like - (claps a few times) - just a couple of claps. It was still a good gig, I still enjoyed it, but I wasn't as good as I wanted to be at that point. There was about 200 people there. That was alright considering no-one knew who I was. How do you think it will be this time on the Main Stage?I think it'll be good. The songs are a lot better and I've got the whole band whereas I was playing acoustic before. I played acoustic for a long time so I'm looking forward to doing the band and all that. Do you prefer that kind of band set up?Well you know, I've always wanted to have my own band and this is probably the best band I'll ever have or have ever had! So I'm really pleased. Are you feeling nervous about your set?I feel a little bit nervous because we haven't played in about two weeks. But they're a tight band and we've worked hard to get the songs sounding good. And you should get a good reception because obviously you're albums doing quite well… | | James onstage |
Yeah, yeah (laughing) – it's doing alright! Will you be here for the rest of the festival?Nah, nah I'm going to Barcelona for a couple of days to enjoy some sunshine! So it'll probably rain here and you'll be sunning yourself!Yeah, yeah! What are you're festival experiences like in general?Well when I was younger we didn't really have any money to go to them. I always wanted to go but could only watch them on the telly and stuff like that. The first festival I probably went to was probably this one, two year ago. And you were performing! Have you looked round Leicester much?Well my family used to live here. My mum went to university here so I've been to Leicester a couple of times and my sister goes to uni here. So I've had some experience of Leicester but not loads. What do you think of it general?Yeah it's alright. It’s not the best place to live but you know it's got some nice things about it like a multicultural sort of society. Will you be looking at any other bands today? | | James on the Main Stage |
Elbow are great. I've heard Jose Gonzalez is playing and Belle and Sebastian and they're the only ones that I know that are playing. So if you know anyone else who's great let me know and I'll go and see them. But we are only hanging around for a few hours afterwards and Elbow are headlining so maybe I'll miss them. But I should hopefully get to see some good acts, yeah. Finally, are there any questions you would love to be asked in an interview but no one has to date?Um… not really no. I always get questions that I don't want to be asked, like the James Blunt thing I get asked about all the time. And the other thing is always "Ah you’ve had a bad childhood - can you tell us about it?" You know everyone has a bit of a tough time and to keep talking about it is just eugh! I've got over it you know and to keep talking about it is like I've not got over it because you're having to repeat yourself and think about it. It does my head in when I have to talk about that kind of thing all the time. I'm pretty positive anyway so I don't let it get to me too much! |
