Hampson's coming home

Former Leicester Tigers player Matt Hampson has returned home to Rutland after suffering a spinal injury whilst training with his country in 2005. East Midlands Today has his story...

Former England and Leicester Tigers star Matt Hampson has returned home after spending the last 16 months living in hospital.

In March 2005 the 20-year-old was left paralysed from the neck down, after being injured when a scrum collapsed, while he was training with the England Under-21 team.

BBC East Midlands Today have been spending time with Matt during his last week in hospital and were with him when he arrived home...

After the accident Matt wasn't able to move or speak and could only communicate using his eyelids.

Since then he has made remarkable progress and is looking forward to getting back to his home in Rutland and living a normal life.
