Dream come true

Ever wondered what it would be like to play the Leeds Festival? We spoke to two bands who will be up on stage at this year's event.

The Sunshine Underground from Leeds were one of the acts chosen to perform on the festival's first ever Unsigned Stage last year. In 2006 they are back - this time on the bigger Carling Stage.

"It's a good progression really. It's nice to come from being a customer to actually playing it. It's really cool."

The band think it's a USP of the festival that it helps local bands to reach a wider audience: "It's specifically the Leeds Festival that helps the local Yorkshire bands. I don't think many other big festivals do that..."

Rothwell band Pigeon Detectives are also playing the Carling Stage this year - quite a feat for a band that have only been together for about two years.

Guitarist Ryan says: "It's always a brilliant weekend. We've been going for the last six years, so playing it's just a big bonus to the weekend."
