DO make your tent distinguishableTents can start to look horribly similar last thing at night when you've had a few to drink, so take note of nearby landnmarks. A flag is great for making your tent stand out from the crowd - make your own flag and send us a pic. We'll put the best up on website! DO pick your campsite carefully | | Make your tent easy to spot |
Festival organisers think thefts are most likely to occur amongst the tents nearest the festival ground. Don't camp too far out though, or you'll be isolated and have miles to trek. Avoid camping at the bottom of any slopes or near the portable toilets if you don't want to get wet and/or smelly. DO stick togetherYou are less likely to be the target of theft or get mugged if you go around in a group. Keep an eye on your valuables at all times. DO take a set of clean, dry clothesAugust or not, this is Britain and the weather may well turn grim. Keep a full change of clean clothes in a plastic bag so you have something dry to sleep in/go home in. It really isn't pleasant wearing the same cold, wet clothes three days on the trot! DO take a mobile phone | | Old mobiles are less likely to be nicked |
Essential for keeping track of your friends if you get separated. Keep a close eye on it though. DON'T take any objects of valueIf you want to take a camera, buy a single use camera. Don't take expensive clothing or watches, don't take any jewellery. DON'T camp aloneIf you are going alone, camp near other people anyway and try and get to know them. Even if you are with a group, it's handy to befriend your fellow campers so you can all keep an eye on each other's belongings. DON'T wander around aloneGirls especially - don't go back to your tent or walk around alone if you can avoid it, especially after dark. If you have to go somewhere alone, let people know where you will be going and for how long. DON'T keep all your money in one place | | Bring plenty of water |
If you are taking a lot of money, get a friend to carry some for you. Carry your money in different pockets, or in a pocket and a money belt. DON'T stay out in the sun too longIf the weather is hot, drink plenty of water - especially if you are boozing as well. Take a cap or headscarf to wear if you think you might end up staying in direct sun all day and make sure you take plenty of suncream - and apply it! ...and moreInformation on campsite security and welfare for Leeds Festival 2006: Happy campers > |
Here's our selection of some of the best suggestions that site users have sent in. Email your top tips to leeds@bbc.co.uk: Take baby wipes, they are like a portable shower (or you could stand in the queue for the showers for an hour). - Neil Take a plastic container to put your money/fags in. Wet ciggies are no fun and the stores don't seem too keen on taking soggy tenners. - Brian Buy or take a two litre bottle of water but don't throw it away when its empty. The water on site is fine from the tap but you need your empty bottle to get it. By the end of the first day they are like gold to get your hands on. - Pete This is obvious, but make sure you know exactly where you wanna be, and at what time. They don't always run as scheduled, but if you know what time it's meant to start, you won't be far off. I made that mistake last year and missed most of Placebo. - SlaneyMan Make sure you bring condoms and paracetamol, you will need one of them if not both!! - Greg If you can get hold of one buy a small torch, tie a shoelace to it and wear it round your neck. It's a godsend for finding your tent in the dark!! - LostJack Don't camp under a tree they get used as toilets and by the end of the weekend your tent and everything in in stinks! - AxlsRose1966 |
