Trend-setting Paris
Paris has always maintained a reputation as the fashion capital of the world, home to fashion houses like Christian Dior and Yves Saint Laurent. The city is a shopper's paradise with hundreds of boutiques selling everything from expensive designer clothing to vintage chic.
In order to know what is hip and what is hot in Paris you must be "branché" as the French say. The term literally means "to be plugged in" and although interpretations differ, it points to all that is trendy and refers more to a way of life or a mentality than any one particular style.
Paris is the self-styled capital of "branchitude". If it is deemed "branché", fashionable Parisians may eat Indian cuisine and go to cafés that sell only mineral waters. Indeed, foreign cuisine was once neglected in favour of French cuisine but lately tastes have grown more exotic and the Indian restaurants of the Passage Brady have become all the rage. If you are in search of the latest trends, Paris can provide plenty of inspiration.
