The Randoms

The Randoms tell us about their no-nonsense rock n roll...

Why not tell us all about your unsigned band?

Your band name?
The Randoms

Who plays what?
Greg - Vocals
Tim - Guitar/Synth
Alex - Lead Guitar
Rob - Bass
Sam - Drums

Anyone got any bad habits?
Sam's ultimately laid back and never on time, Rob is his total opposite and worries a lot, Tim has to be in charge and get his own way, Alex gets tired and Greg drives fast. The Randoms is a fitting name for a band with such contrasting personalities and eclectic influences.

What's the band's history so far?
The Randoms came together as today's line up in Autumn 2003.

Founder member and principle songwriter Tim Matthews had previously tasted some success with various Manchester/Liverpool based groups throughout the 90's. When the last of these split in 1998, he was determined to use this new-found freedom to gain experience in the music industry and develop his own writing style.

Tim spent the next 28 months working with local musicians and engineering/tour-managing various chart acts including Sweet Female Attitude. This time helped Tim stockpile ideas and re-built his confidence and ability in song writing.

Lead singer Greg Derbyshire and Tim who met at junior school were reunited through a mutual friend. Greg, at the time an industrial engineer, tried his hand at singing backing vocals on some of Tim's tracks. However it soon became apparent that his commanding presence and vocal talent were better suited to the front of the stage.

So late 2002 Tim and Greg were the beginnings of what would become The Randoms.

Soon after Tim's brother andcharismatic lead guitarist Al Lomas joined. He was followed closely by bassist Rob Rees, whom Tim had met through the local music scene and knew well from previous collaborations.

The band tried various drummers during this time andit wasn't until late 2003 that Sam Shields joined, who possessed both the ability and attitude the band had sought.

Style and influences?
Their style can be described as no nonsense rock 'n roll with a glam edge. Influences include, Cannon Ball Run, David Bowie, Liverpool, The A Team, Guns n Roses, Ghost Busters, Newquay, Sun n Sea, Arcade Games n 2 p machines, Buts of Glam, 60's pop, Punk and No nonsense Rock n Roll.
