BBC BusYou are in: Lancashire > BBC Face 2 Face > BBC Bus > Big bus blog - Morecambe Big bus blog - MorecambeThe big blue BBC Bus heads to the north of the county and pulls up outside the Platform in Morecambe... ------ ![]() FRIDAY 22 JUNE (l-r) Super sleuths on the bus. Victorian Morecambe? The Midland will fit this space very well. ------ Do you think people still nick lead from roofs? I didn’t, I thought it was an antiquated crime that no longer happened, today we found out different. We had arranged to work with a couple of PCSO’s they were offering a bike branding service... whilst on site one of them noticed a fella dragging a trolley out of some bushes, he then pushed what was a very heavy trolley along the road. She followed for a while then radioed in explain what was happening, the guy was stopped and found to be carrying a load of lead – what looks to be the same lead that was stolen from the roof next to us. This was her first collar and she seemed well chuffed. Great week Morecambe! The BBC Bus team------ ![]() THURSDAY 21 JUNE (l-r) Princes Trust success. Doing good stuff in Morecambe. ------ The Princes Trust has a lot to be proud of, they have produced two young people that at one stage were heading in the wrong direction, they both admitted this. Now they have been given a purpose, they have been offered another chance to make a difference and they have accepted with open arms. The two you see above are really working hard to make a difference, they are genuine and restore your faith in human nature. When you next think all kids today are baduns think again – these two might me diamonds in the rough but they are diamonds none-the-less. The BBC Bus team------ ![]() WEDNESDAY 20 JUNE It's a hive of activity at the magnificent Midland Hotel ------ £5,000 might only be a day's pay for Sal, but back in 1846 Edward Paley built and furnished the original Midland Hotel here in Morecambe. Feeling like children pacing a grotto we wandered the once and soon to be again magnificent building. Oliver is from Belgium and is overseeing the artistic reconstruction, he took us on a journey around the then 1933 revamped Oliver Hill piece of art deco; you get the feeling that Olly is showing us around his family home – he points out every nook and cranny with enthusiasm explaining how it will look this time next year. The place is a hive of activity – indeed, the workers here all wear yellow hi-viz vests with yellow hardhats giving the impression of a thousand soldier bees scurrying around, each knowing what the other is doing. He didn’t arrive with attitude pronouncing his entrance, he didn’t prance or sashay, he just walked on the bus and said hello. Part way into the conversation he mentioned a group that meets in Morecambe – it’s a no hate collection of people from all walks of life including gay lesbian and transvestites – Dave is a transvestite, his Mrs wasn’t all that keen so they split but his kids are cool about it. With a celebration of difference this blog presents to you..... Dave/Dee – he is what he is and feels quite happy thank you very much. You can listen to the interview by clicking the link below...
