This assignment is designed to provide evidence for Level 2 Communication, Information and Communication Technology and Application of Number in Key Skills and would be ideal for use with media students. However, the recording of a radio advertisement could also be linked to other subject areas.

Assignment Instructions - Part 1The aim of this assignment is to produce a radio advertisement. Initially you will have to analyse radio advertisements and then you will produce a script which you will record. You will work out costs, and use ICT in order to develop and reflect on your work. You will also work by yourself and with others. Task 1 Individually tape two radio advertisements and analyse them. Produce a short report, which fully describes the advertisements that you have listened to. Make sure that you include the following: - The purpose of the advertisement
- The codes and conventions in the advertisement
- Its narrative structure
- Its influence on the target audience
- Any issues of representation that may arise from the advertisement
Task 2 In groups of no more than five, prepare a presentation in which you describe how you should analyse an advertisement. You can discuss your choice of advertisement and use the report that you have already completed. To support the presentation you will need to use visual/graphic/tape and audio equipment. Make sure that you clearly describe each section in great detail and discuss all relevant points. Remember: Book the equipment that you will need in advance. Task 3 Give your presentation. When you have finished write/type and individual evaluation of your presentation. Task 4 Hand in a folder, which contains your group presentation notes, your individual evaluations and all evidence.
