Medals Jersey topped its seven pool medals from yesterday as the swimmers took home nine of the droplets on the third day of the competition. Ian Black continued his dominance after winning two golds in Aland in his second day of competing with one another Games record.
Jersey men's 4x50m freestyle relay team took home silver, as did the Women's 4x50m medley relay team. There were also golds for Katie Speller in the 200, individual medley and Ebony Jacklin int he 400m individual medley. Charlotte Manning took silver in the 200m breaststroke and sisters Katy and Emma Glendening took silver and bronze respectively in the women's 800m freestyle. There was also athletics success for Jersey as teenager Kathryn Rothwell won gold in the women's shot-put. There was also a gold for Gemma Dawkins int he women's 400m. Peter Irving took silver in the 110m hurdles and Felicity Johnson-Deeley won bronze in the 1500m. And Zane Duquemin won his second medal of the 2009 Games with a gold in the Discus. Jersey beat Guernsey in the table tennis semi-final to win a place in the final against Gotland. Jersey eventually went on to lose to the stronger Swedish side. At the end of the day Jersey won its first Archery medal int he Single FITA Men's Recurve. The silver medal came thanks to Michael Coward.
Medals Jersey was awash with the water droplet shaped medals in the second day of the games with seven coming from the pool alone.
Ian Black brought added two gold's to the islands tally with one carrying a Games record behind it. Black's first gold came in the Men's 100m Breastroke followed by the record setting 200m Individual Medley. He was also part of the silver winning 4x50m Medley Relay team that also included Tom Gallichanm, Ben Le Clercq and Antoin Le Fevre. John Gallichan brought the men's swimming tally to four when he took silver in the 1500m Freestyle. But it wasn't just Jersey's men pulling in the medals in the pool - Katie Speller claimed two and a record of her own. Speller's first was a record breaking gold in the 400m Individual Medley - beating second place Olivia Rawlinson of the Isle of Man by around eight seconds. There was also a silver for Jersey's women in the 4x50, Freestyle Relay. Jersey also added two to their athletics medal tally with a Silver in the 400m Hurdles for Peter Irving and a bronze in the shot-putt for Zane Duquemin. There was another medal at the shooting range for Jersey when the Men's team took bronze in the 50m Prone Smallbore Rifle event.
Medals The first full day of action at the 2009 Island Games in Aland saw Jersey competitors take part in 10 of the 11 sports.
Jersey athletes came away with three medals from the first day of sport - two bronzes and a silver. The first medal of the day for Jersey came from the shooting range when David Ward won silver with team-mate Michael Quennault in the 50m free pistol event. The pair were just one point ahead of bronze winners Aland, and 16 behind Gotland who took gold. The bronzes were in athletics, one for Daniel Halksworth in the 10,000m and the other for Jason Fox in the High Jump. Halksworth finished third (32.57.74) behind Guernsey's Stephen Dawes (32.25.12) in second and Janne Holmen of Aland in first (30.03.64). Jazon Fox took the bronze jumping 2.03 just 2cm behind silver medalist Omar Wright of the Caymen Islands and 4cm behind first placed Perry Anglin, also of the Cayman Islands in first. Other results The Jersey men's tennis team were knocked out of the competition at the Island Games in Aland after losing to Menorca in the quarter-finals. Jersey's James Connelly lost the first match but was not too downhearted. He said: "I'm pleased with my performance, was unlucky to lose in three sets, disappointed that it didn't go to a full third set."
