A brilliant performance from Lauren in Bendigo, during which she threw a personal best in the discus of 44.81 metres, saw her clinch third place and the bronze medal. She was consistant throughout, and her prize might have bigger, as the Jersey team put in a protest about Australia claiming both silver and gold. The understanding was that there should be one competitor only per country other than in the sprints. But the protest was turned down. This still rates as one of the best achievements ever in island athletics and a truly tremendous performance by the youngster. But there was disappointment for Jersey's Stephen Prosser on the track. He was away first in the 100 metres sprint heat, and leading after 15 metres, only to pull up with a torn hamstring. He was ambulanced to hospital for further treatment, and is also now out of the 200 metre event. Even more disappointing was that the winning time of 10.76 from Australia's Brandon Gallick was only 400th of a second inside Prosser's best. In the swimming pool, Rosie Barette broke her island record in the 1500m freestyle with a time of 18 minutes 18 seconds to take fourth place. Ashley Cope placed fifth in the same event in a time of 18:27, and the ladies medley relay team came in seventh place.
Earlier, Rosie Barette placed 18th in the 100 free, while Daniel Halksworth was ninth in the 200 back, 2:16:65, well outside his personal best. Victoria Rebours was 10th in the 50 breast, in a personal best time of 38.56. Amy Pallot was also 10th in the 100 fly, in 69.18.
