Viking festival in Peel

Viking festival in Peel

Time Travelling

There are fireside suppers, battle re-enactments, bronze smiths, meals eaten with wooden spoons and hot drinks from stone goblets. The Peel Viking Festival is a chance to transport yourself back in time without the help of Dr. Who’s Tardis.

The re-enactors who visit the Isle of Man for the Viking festival in Peel come from all over the world to make it an authentic experience not to be forgotten.

"Back at the camp there is a peaceful atmosphere as the women folk, children and craftsmen get on with life, as it would have been over 1000 years ago."

There are battle re-enactments on Peel beach throughout the week while back at the camp there is a peaceful atmosphere as the women folk, children and craftsmen get on with life, as it would have been over 1000 years ago.

Organisers say the Vikings, some of whom return every year, are fast becoming extended members of their own families.

So why would anyone become a Viking? There's not much money involved and there are endless nights spent under the stars when the rain is pelting down on you and your children.

The answer is simply. because they love it.
