While having a forced break from my job as a Paramedic (I was off sick after a minor stroke) I started researching my family tree. I discovered among some photographs one of my Grandfather (on My Mother's side) He was with me and wearing his old BD's, and the Medal Ribbons were quite clear. I scanned the picture into my computer, and was able to enlarge them to a decent size.
Allowing for the passage and ravages of time, it appears he had been awarded the following :-
??The Military Cross??, The Military Medal,The India General Service Medal,1939-45 Star,Africa Star, Burma Star,France & Germany Star,Defence Medal & the 1939-45 War Medal.
I know he was a Sargeant with 14 Coy AMP Corps, BEF. in March 1940 (from a postcard he sent home to my mum)
I believe he was commissioned around February 1941 (from an entry I found in the London Gazette), and I have also discovered he was in Cambra, West Africa around 1943. I am also told he served post D-Day in Brussels, possibly as the Deputy Provost Marshal.
I know he joined the Army in the 1920's (Royal Welsh Fusiliers) and was commissioned into the Royal Pioneer Corps. He retired in 1946 in the rank of Captain, and I have applied to Army Records for his service records...will update when I have further info.
