My uncle George McCallum, nicknamed Cosmo, was in the Royal Artillery in Libya with the 8th Army on November 21st. 1942.

His group captured an Italian flag, wrote their names on the flag, drew lots for it and he won it.

He was later transferred to the Royal West Kents. Regiment based in Ashford until December 7th 1946.

At some time Arthur Mullard, the actor, was with him.

The names on the flag are:-

BDR \l. Carlish D.C. of the Detachment
J. Boyd The gunner who?
J. Miller John o' Groats (Jay the flying Scotsman)
H. G. Archer
W. Schofield born in London
H. E. Harris
W. Roberts, Limehouse
