The Italian flag captured in Libya on November 21st 1942 by a detachment of the 8th Army and signed by them. George Cosmo McCallam won the lot to keep the flag.

My uncle George McCallam, nicknamed Cosmo was in the Royal Artillery in Libya with the 8th Army on November 21st, 1942.

His group captured an Italian flag , wrote their names on the flag, drew lots for it and he won it.

He was later transferred to the Royal West Kents. regiment based in Ashford in Kent until December 7th, 1946.

At some time Arthur Mullard, the actor was with him.

Names on the flag are:

BDR. L. Carlish, D.C. of the detachment
J. Boyd the gunner who?
J. Miller John o' Groats (Jay the Flying Scotsman)
H. G. Archer
W.Schofield born in London
H. E. Harris
W. Roberts, Limehouse
Porky Hasell Bermondsey Boys
T. Blonde Flemings

I am interested in learning more about this incident and in finding a home for the flag
